An elderly woman was knocked to the ground when a bicycle-riding thief attempted to snatch her purse, Thursday (Oct. 9).

Police said the woman was walking in the green space behind Herbie's Drug Mart at 1551 Dundas St., at around 2:15 p.m., when a male on a bicycle rode by and attempted to grab a bag she was carrying.

Though the thief was unsuccessful, "The victim held on and as a result fell receiving some abrasions," police said.

The cycling suspect fled the scene and police were contacted.

The suspect is described as a white male, 14 to 17 years old, wearing a green and white ball cap in a backwards position, dark clothing and riding a small bike.

Anyone with information is asked to call London police at 519-661-5670 or contact Crime Stoppers online (see link) or call 1-800-222-TIPS.
