Not sure what is more disturbing....the example of drinking and driving that he is setting for his bar patrons...or that his wife serves on the Police Services board.
By: Tracy McCullough on 02/02/2009
Well hard to imgaine how the bar will stay open now. Good riddence to that stupid patio. Perhaps London Transit can return the bus shelter that was moved.

Time for new talent in the Mayors office - restore the city's integrity - don't forget to tip your honorable waitress.

Don't worry. Tom Gosnell will pull some strings and get him off on all charges.
By: Tomasi on 02/02/2009
Lets be fair here -- this doesn't have anything to do with Anne Marie. As far as Mayors go, I think she's does a pretty good job -- especially at council, she rules the room. I wonder what she thinks of her Knight in shining armour now? Who sang that song? "Stand by your man" Think she will?
By: S. Peckinpaw on 02/02/2009
I'm not a Londoner, i'm a traveler that is living in London atm, and from every city in Canada that I have lived in London's is second rate for a first class city. This just goes to show you that Anne-Marie is a bad decision maker. She's not even fit to be the mayor of St. Thomas let alone London.
By: Mr. Right on 02/02/2009
Where was Anne Marie while this was taking place? hopefully not in the passengers seat. ... hopefully this means the end to Anne Maries run as mayor... London is turning into a hole... no jobs, high crime... If she cant even get her husband to behave, how is she going to turn this city around?
By: Jeff on 02/02/2009
Tom Gosnell is going to pull strings? Are you kidding? Tom is probably giggling like a schoolgirl right about now. I have always had the feeling that Mr Gosnell would run for Mayor come next municipal election. This incident is like manna from heaven. Maybe Dale Hunter can put Tim in touch with a good lawyer.
By: RC Rublik on 02/02/2009
I want you to imagine the Best household tonight. Despite no love for the tax-and-spend Communist mayor of London, I take no pleasure in her pain and suffering. If she is ultimately no longer mayor because of it though, I can't say that karma hasn't played a part. I would speculate that the mayor separates soon enough, and the disaster that was her business is folded even sooner. One does wonder what compromises and favours were borne of this unholy business alliance that may have betrayed London's taxpayers and remain yet to be unveiled or settled.
By: Dan Taylor on 02/02/2009
I think it does have something to do with Anne-Marie. After all, how on earth did he manage to get released that quickly? Shouldn't he have spent at least the night in jail? Any normal citizen would have. If he does manage to get off, I'll be truly appalled!! And that should reflect on Anne-Marie as well. BTW I read that the bar is up for sale, but of course Best denied he was in financial trouble.
By: Kathryn on 02/02/2009
I think we should be fair to Anne Marie, you're right Peckinpaw, she has done a good job. and we all know that she's the better half in the relationship. It's a shame that she has to go through this, but what was he thinking??? drinking and driving is for losers, and he's the latest addition to the drunk drivers. I think Anne Marie should use this opportunity to crack down hard on those who drink and drive. He should be made an example of and suffer the consequences of his actions. Thats the only way he or any one else can possibley benefit from this situation.
By: Monica on 02/02/2009
She can't control her husband's actions. But I hope she doesn't stand by them either.
By: Leslie B on 02/02/2009
I hope he doesn't get off on this, and the people he hit sues his butt off! These people who think they are above everyone else deserve to be taken down a couple of notches. His restaurant is terrible, his life as the Mayor's husband is obviously too much for him, he should never have come back to London. Shame on you Mr.Best obviously you only think of yourself selfishly and have no respect for your wife or other people.
By: Shelley on 02/02/2009
How can you all prejudge Timmy boy? We have yet to hear his side of the story. It is possible he wasn't fleeing from police....Perhaps he was running to Zellers for a lawn chair door crasher.
By: Drunken Sailor on 02/02/2009
Yesterday morning as I read this news (from another country) I saw the name Tim Best, went through my mental rolodex thinking, why does that name sound familiar? After I made the connection I spoke with family members in London and mentioned the latest 'Best' debaucle. If it were any other family we'd look at this successful woman and say 'what was she thinking hooking with this loser?' This woman runs the city. She's exercising very poor judgement and has too much power to be flaky. Time for Tom!!
By: Lifeswruff on 02/02/2009
Wow -- this is bad in so many ways. I feel bad for Anne-Marie. She will need to come forward publicly and denounce her husband's actions. The man really needs to grow right up. He should definitely do jail time. I am wondering if this will end their marriage. I know I wouldn't be sticking around. You deserve wayyyyyyy better, Anne-Marie. Cut the loser loose.
By: pessy on 02/02/2009
Of course he was let out right away! It would be against his human rights as a raging alcoholic to be in the pokey on Superbowl Sunday! I wonder...when released from custody, did they let him drive home?
By: expectedasmuch on 02/02/2009
Anyone who mentions Tom as candidate again should have their head examined and their comments purged...
By: Ryan on 02/02/2009
They say that for every time a person gets 'caught' drinking and driving, they may have done so and not been caught up to 100 times. So for those of you who say that precious Anne-Marie is not liable? Do you think she does not know that her husband drinks and drives? Do you think she would have alerted police if he staggered into the house after driving this time? NO. It raises the question: Has he done this before and used his clout to get away from London Police? I wonder if he would have been charged if there had not been accidents or injuries. Also, if he was indeed intoxicated as charged, he rightly should have spent the night in jail. To say that his release is not preferential treatment is nonsense. Good going Anne Marie. Glad to know you're keeping the roads safe from drunk drivers! Probably best if you step down from your hypocritical spot on the police services board.
By: Concerned on 02/02/2009
I think we need to remember it was Tim Best, not the mayor behind the wheel.
By: heather on 02/02/2009
This is a front page story yet it doesn't seem to make it there. It is a miracle he didn't kill anyone. Make an example of this loser. He needs to spend few months in jail to realize the severity of his actions.
By: Craig on 02/02/2009
Ann Marie is a Professional please do not blame her, let us not punish her for his actions.
By: Bill Manchester on 02/03/2009
I feel terrible for the Mayor - love her or hate her, this is something none of us would want and she will pay with humiliation both professionally and personally. It's difficult enough to deal with this privately, but to have it known so publicly would be awful. He did something really, really stupid and she will bear the burden for his actions. Totally not fair to her.
By: Jody on 02/02/2009
With every voice in this city, there will be another opinion about Anne Marie, Tim and this story. This is a terrible situation for everyone involved. Londoners, what happened to the notion of getting all of the details before you passed such your judgements? What happened to the idea of compassion? Has no one ever made a bad decision in their lives? Remember that everyone has a story... before you become judge, jury and executioner.
By: Perspective Shift on 02/02/2009
The Mayor was working at Friday Night Lights on Superbowl Sunday, is that not a conflict of interest? She's probably not even at work today, hence absentism with city workers. I honestly see our city falling apart. Put the bus shelter back where it belongs and let Mr. & Mrs. Best pay for their failures like the rest of us taxpayers do.
By: Jean on 02/02/2009
I don't feel terrible for the mayor or her so called husband. The fact of the matter is, they made there bed now they have to lie in it. This is a perfect time for the mayor to step down so our community can put all of this crap over the last two years behind us. As for the Free Press we've cancelled our subscription because of there biased third page article. Thank God no one was killed on Saturday.

What message is she sending ?? --out of province but laughing!!! |
By: B.C. on 02/03/2009
There is no place for symapthy here. Plain and simple the man got behind the wheel of a large sport utility and drove while seriously impaired. Not only leaving the scene of two accidents, he also fled in an attempt to prevent getting caught. The paper did not report that the police had to tackle and subdue him. Which would mean the arrest was with incident which is further supported as one officer sustained an injury. There is no excuse for this behaviour nor can it justified as "we all make mistakes." The bottom line is he is only lucky that no one died as a result of his actions. Prosecute this man as any other would be. He should face jail time for this behaviour. Our current government would also support this as they have changed the criminal code for impaired drivers. Less tolerance and more sentences. Not only will he face the courts for the antics he pulled, he will most likely face the courts for a divorce.
By: Craig on 02/03/2009
To perspective shift: Compassion?? are you kidding?? Yes the police officer and people that were hit by this reckless person deserve compassion. There is no story that can come from Tim Best that can justify his actions. Jail time is the answer here, as I would not want to read about you or anyone else having been killed or seriously injured as a result of Tim Best and his stupidity. Save compassion for those who deserve it.
By: craig on 02/03/2009
Yes, everyone is entitled to make a mistake. Had he been pulled over and blown over the limit, I may have bought into the "honest mistake" defense. But he collided with a car, for crying out loud, and kept driving! Then, after colliding with ANOTHER car, he still kept driving! Then tried to get away on foot! By that point, his actions were far less accidental than they were arbitrary.
By: sawitcoming on 02/03/2009
How would any of you care to be thought responsible for anothers stupid , thoughtless actions. If this were the spouse of your favourite movie star would you feel the same way . Probably not . Imagine the personal humiliation and sadness that our Mayor must be facing . Both she and her husband are facing monumental personal trials today that will spill over into the public eye. Tim Best will have to pay for what he has done and hopefully the punishment will reflect the seriousness of his actions and change him for good. All that being said this is not the time to join the stone throwing crowd. Anne Marie needs our support not our critisism. My prayers are with this family
By: pam on 02/03/2009
Quit blaming Anne-Marie for her husband's bonehead behaviour!! She is no more responsible for his actions than we are!!! I wonder if this had happened to a wife of a male mayor, if we would be hearing so many calls for resignation???????
By: doublestandard on 02/03/2009
Get over it folks - this is obviously not the first time this clown has driven drunk and I doubt the lady mayor can plead ignorance about it. And the degree of stupidity he showed in fleeing 2 accident scenes, then tried to run from the cops - can any intelligent human being actually think that he has a plausible explanation for this? If Anne-Marie was smart, she'd have ditched him long ago. Obviously she's standing by her man - which is why he got out of jail so fast. It's not like she's just anyone. She is high profile and thus must stand up to a higher test.
By: Kathryn on 02/03/2009
Assuming he is convicted of some or all of the charges, does anyone know how this will impact his ability to move back to the United States?
By: Teresa on 02/03/2009
The law and humanity says Best should pay in full for his actions! Anne-Marie is not at fault here. Will power and money make this horrible offence go away? I certainly hope the man pays for his wrong doings!!!!
By: junior on 02/03/2009
Well it looks like that's it for Decicco. She has made several large mistakes at London city hall that she has tried to cover up - and now she has to think of an excuse for her stupid drunk husband. He should have spent the night in jail, if it was any regular citizen, they would have rotted in the police jail cells until their court date. Every knows that Decicco used her powers to get him out on bail, the same way she used her powers to get a bus stop & 2 trees torn down and moved because they interfered with her husbands bar in downtown London on Richmond street. Tim hit 2 cars, nearly a 3rd, almost killed an elderly couple and then tried to run from the police. What the article does not say is that he had to be tackled and handcuffed to keep him at the scene. Tim Best - you are a disgrace as a business owner and Ann Marie you are a failure as a mayor. Its time for both of you to leave with your dignity while you still have some
By: sawitcoming on 02/03/2009
10 yrs in jail & $100,000 fine for Timmy. Anne-Marie can whine to Megan Walker about being abused.
By: Ice Cold on 02/03/2009
I heard that some drunk drivers will actually run from their vehicles after collisions so that they can file FAKE stolen vehicle reports! I'm not saying that's what was crossing Timmy's mind at the time, he probably just never had his cellphone with him & was running towards the nearest pay phone to dial 911 in order to verify that none of those victims that were struck by his SUV were severely injured. I mean he's not actually a Medical Doctor, and those type of decisions are probably best for medical professionals to decide. I do sympathize with poor little Annie, she does not need any of this uninvited drama.
By: Nye Eve on 02/03/2009
Stunning the pettiness of some Londoners... Yes, Anne-Marie is not a perfect mayor, but she has done the best she could with what she has had to work with--including some pretty incompetent council members at times--and London could have far worse (in fact London has had FAR, FAR, worse in both Tom Gosnell and Dianne Haskett. In fact it was the Gosnell years that destroyed the downtown and turned London into a second class city). Given the nature of many posts, most of you have no idea what the hell it takes to be a good mayor and sure as hell will never understand the demands of public office because you will never hold one. I am not defending Mr. Best's actions, but they ARE NOT a reflection of the Mayor's ability to do her job. I've had many occassions to disagree with the Mayor, as well as some occassions to agree with her, but I certainly won't hold this against her. How many attacking the mayor over this hold themselves to such standards? Probably the same kind of people who blame the teacher when it is their kid that is the problem...people who live in glass houses should remember the dangers of throwing stones.
By: Shawn on 02/03/2009
Well who's name is the Bar license in? Usually an owner "charged" with drinking and driving is enough for it to be pulled. That comes from a former owner of a club. Hmmmmmm makes ya think a little ......

By: CHRIS on 02/03/2009
Kudows to the police for doing their job regardless of the person. This could not have come as a complete surprise to the Mayor and although she is not responsible for his actions she had to have known this was a possibility and has just turned a blind eye in hopes it would go away. Not an attribute you want in an elected government official. Pity for her is one thing, but the public shouldn't be just as guilty in turning a blind eye to the implications for everyone concerned.
By: imgibson on 02/03/2009
This whole thing is like a train wreck in slow motion, and who can possibly look away? sorry folks, but Anne Marie signed up for this -- A Channel played their own video footage from her wedding because she allowed the camera into the church. Anne Marie hasn't missed a photo op in her life and I'm not buying the private matter/private life thing. While I feel badly for what she must be going through, she signed up for this. Mr. Best's behaviour is a hugh offense to Londoners. We expect more of someone who represents our City. He isn't elected but he is at her side at public events and helps to host invited dignitaries to our city. This IS something we need to care about. And yes, if it was the wife of a male Mayor, I believe the coverage would also be warranted. Anne Marie needs to wake up and take responsibility. Shame on those media outlets that are protecting her ... if that was at her request, I wouldn't be surprised either.
By: shakingmyhead on 02/03/2009

I do agree with some here... its hard to judge Anne Marie on the actions of her husband, but you cant tell me that it doesnt bring up concerns if shes seen this type of behaviour from him in the past. If she had, it would make her liable. The only way she can save her career... is to ensure that he gets the same trial that every other Joe Londoner would get. He does time, she makes a public statement saying that drunk driving is inexcuseable..then she may save her career. If he gets off, and she remains silent. she needs to be removed.

I wish that you are able to heal from this. I am one Londoner who happens to believe that you are both very good people. Namaste. |

Right Elaine, both out, as Mayor not only rules the council and gets the power from nothing but tax-and-spend... TaxMore-and-spend... and TaxEvenMore-and-spend overconfidence. Anyone would be so confident if more and more funds are available, spent on enormous nuisances, with little support on reasoning behind it. Economy just squawks, and she uses overrated property values to come up with 2009 taxes. You can appeal, but how many will wrap their head around this very hard to approach process? And it's all spent her way or no way, as poor taxpayers, instead of fighting her, are too busy bouncing their household funds to come with property tax payments. ...And in light of pending lawsuit(s) - both out.
By: Glet on 02/04/2009
It is not the mayor's fault her husband is an idiot. I don't agree with her political point of view, but I feel only sadness for her. The humiliation she must feel would be overwhelming. He is a complete and total selfish jerk to do this to her. She should be kicking his ass to the curb.

Why is it that London Topic (a deservingly growing source) is able to post an article with comments, but that other aging company that refuses to serve the public, can not? Did they get a payout? Does Tim Best have a vested interest in them? Makes me wonder. But I also wonder when London is going to be a place one can be proud of... or at least of our city council. Anne Marie needs to resign her seat on the police services board. She obviously was not a good role model for her husband by being there.

This is normal for politicians, it's like having the Kennedy family in London. The next thing Tim Best will do is have sex with a city hall clerk. If she can't run her home? how do you expect her to run City Hall. She will write a book or will he? Call in Doctor Phil or send him to LA to a rehab with the stars. A real man can handle his booze and sticks around to fight his own battles.
By: Neil Diamond on 02/04/2009
I agree with you, Robert. I noted that the website of our major daily took their own article off the main page ... smells like there's a little favouritism being played here. This is the only site that is allowing for public expression around the subject. Your comment about police services board is bang on--the optics of that are an embarassment to our community. Tim Best's little trip has received coverage on CP 24, CBC radio, CTV newsnet--well beyond our community. As they follow the story throughout his next court appearance in March, the media will dig further and the Mayor's active involvement in police services will cause other communities to look at London and "shake their heads".

Wow! I just got in. I was out feeding the huge herd of deer since last Saturday. I still find it hard to believe the amount of beasts I came across (5), I'm exhausted from trying to avoid the local media ( new PL, A channel what ever it's called, Free Press and all the radio stations ) who were hogging all the good spots over this great expanse of this 1 frozen acre swamp. Upon my return I had found that Tim Best ( Anne Marie's husband ) was bound and gagged for a series of transportation and alcohol offenses, thank GOD for this indepth coverage by our local media ( page 3 in the London Free Press and second story on the what ever channel) for I would not of known. Not Tim Best! No! it can't be? It's nice to see that he kept the drunk drivers oath ( for every mile of road, there's two miles of ditch) in order. Keep it between the lines Buddy, Brrrrrrrp. Grimm

"Why is it that London Topic (a deservingly growing source) is able to post an article with comments, but that other aging company that refuses to serve the public, can not? Did they get a payout?" That other news source probably realized that it would receive comments at such a low level as I read on this site. This has very little, if at all, to do with DeCicco; she can't "control" her husband anymore than the rest of us can, nor should anyone expect her to. The really important issue is his ownership of the bar. He is supposed to set a leadership example for his staff to ensure that patrons aren't over-served - how is he going to do that now? or, I suspect, how could he have done that before? The LLBO needs to investigate the training of his staff regarding over-serving, and attitudes in this bar, and consider pulling his license.

Being a life long resident of London, I could NEVER understand how a college certificate in radio/TV broadcasting qualified that person to be a CEO of a city with a population of 350,000 . Would you make that person the CEO of GM, 3M, Ford etc.etc. ??? The same mistakes that have been made as the CEO have also been made in their private life.

Just thinking about glass house guy quoting Matthew and motes and specks in the eye. I'd say this is more like a log jam. There has to be an objective standard of measure...a law for the fabulously rich and famous and the same law for the disenfranchised Legal Aided. One law for all people that should not be bent, folded or mutilated. Otherwise...why have any laws at all? And as for judging? Eventually there will be a judge. I believe it's in March actually. Hearings are open to the public. Why wait for the second hand, third page London Free Press sequel when you can cover it yourself? And maybe I have too much time on my hands tonight...but I read all the blogs. And now I can't help thinking about the Lonesome Death of Hattie Carrol (a song by Bob Dylan) based on a true story about William Zanzinger. It's worth looking up the lyrics on the internet. Great song. The ladder of Justice does have a top and a bottom. I've seen it many times...as recently as last December. Does anyone recall the LFP coverage of the 4 First Nations teenagers who, in Dec 2008, ran from police following a car crash? To read of it in the LFP...you would think they were the sons of Sam. Anyway...what the LFP didn't report was that after they were arrested, they held without bail, without medical attention, and kept in shackles during their eventual bail hearings. I've often wondered if the LFP's coverage, (that included a statement from the Chief of Police himself), had anything to do with the size of the book that was thrown at them? For the record, did the LFP try to reach the Police Chief for comment on the Best case? If not, why not? Surely he has a strong opinion on drunk driving and hit and runners, I have more to say but most has already been said, and said well, by the critical thinkers who wrote some of the above commentaries...

I would suggest you look no further than to the American and Canadian economy to see just what a University educated CEO can do for an economy. That was a poor example of fiscal responsiblilty and management. You could take a single mother with a couple kids and put her in one of those positions, and she would have at least had enough sense to know you don't spend money that you don't have now, or in the future.
By: Honey Pot on 02/05/2009
Well I believe in presuming innocence, the truth may be that Tim Best's incident may have actually been only an audition for a full length feature on COPS or perhaps that it was for a mini series on gangstas, that might explain the shooting at his bar a little ways back.
By: presuming innocence on 02/05/2009
I can't believe that people actually do not think that Anne Marie isn't involved in this. I am sure this is not the first time Tim Best has arrived home intoxicated and behind the wheel of his vehicle. We should all be happy that at least this time he has been caught and is off the road and no one was killed. Anne Marie should take blame along side with her husband. Maybe if he was responsible he could have called "Keys Please" and he would not be in this situation.
By: Anna on 02/05/2009
Londoners! Step out of your "eye for an eye- ultimate punisher" positions for a second. Geez, those loathful comments! You critical thinkers must be the ones who so frequently cut me off and flip me the bird when I am out driving with my children!! So far, you (ahem..."Joe Londoner") have accused the Mayor of seeking inappropriate support from the LFP, assumed that the Police Services Boad is full of a bunch of monkeys whom Mrs. DeCicco- Best will indimidate into submission (ya, right!) and have implied that this family is like the Kennedy's and that they shall garner favouritism due to their "rich and famous" status. What city do you live in? Hollywood? You have shot the most hateful language towards Tim Best...which ranges from him being an "idiot" to a serial drunk driver, to someone who should be "kicked to the curb". You have attacked Megan Walker and the CEO of the LFP. Looking at the remarks, I could go on and on. I guess I am not the only one shaking my head over this, not because of Tim and his accidents, but because of the intolerance and attacking nature of the remarks made. May sorrow and pain never find you or your families...because sometimes, people do things that they may have "normally" never done before. Peace to the recovering injured. Peace to Anne Marie and Tim. Namaste

Dosha, it saddens me to think that your bleeding heart has no effect on your pocket book. We, as Joe Londoners are so fed up with the embarrassment, corruption and collusion in our community that is being sent out to the rest of Canada and it has us at wits end. Family???(The Soprano's) This is what democracy and freedom of speech is all about. You find that if you get enough people who are fed up with a system and speak out in haste, you will get results. All we know is right from wrong. You should send your comments to all the grieving MOTHERS, FATHERS, FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS who have had a LOVED ONE KILLED or INJURED by a DRUNK DRIVER. You know nothing about this man (Tim Best), how much more proof do you need that he is a CRIMINAL and needs to be dealt with quickly and severely. As for the credibly of our Mayors education and experience in politics has proven to be weak at best. You too can go sit at city council meetings on Mondays and absorb the municipal way of politics just like Ann Marie did and throw that dart with no experience in the real working world to be elected on the coat tails of her predecessor. It goes to show that all you need in this city is a pretty face and articulate voice. The Mayor is the best ribbon cutter we've ever had (minimal results in 10 years). As for the LFP and local news stations, they obviously let important issues go to the backburner and fabricate the actual facts and begin a story and never finish the importance to the community. As for being flipped the bird, I do feel sorry for your children that had to witness this gesture. Reading through your ramblings I feel that you are one of those people who needs two lanes of traffic to make a decision on what to do while driving. Hence the flipping of the bird. First Caster

Anyone who knows Tim Best will not be suprised he has screwed up. Tim believes he can talk his way out of any situation. This could be a tough one!
By: Jack on 02/06/2009
There seems to be two issues here: 1. If you don't agree with the mayors governing, don't vote for her (how many commenters have actually voted at all?); not based on her husbands actions. 2. If you don't like Mr. Best (for whatever reason), don't visit his establishment). That simple.
By: My view on 02/06/2009
More BS politics. The cost of governance in London has skyrocketed in the last 10-15 years due to gross mismanagement. And now the London Free Press takes it upon itself to put the most important story in quite sometime on the 3rd page while the deer population, I hit one a little over one year ago and totaled my vehicle, got the 1st page. F... off London Free Press and f... off London city council. You suck.

Hmmmm, I notice at this moment that LFP has not one but TWO 'Breaking News' stories regarding a drunk driver. Two??? (isn't that overkill?? I would hope that the poor schmuck that got nailed this time will be given that same courtesy as Tim and have this story hidden on the third page by tomorrow. After all isn't better to just turn the other cheek on situations like this?? NOT!!!!!!!!!!
By: DifferentSetofRules?? on 02/17/2009
A lot of people are gonna be watching when this case when it finally comes to the courts. I don't think LFP & A News are gonna be able to bury/suppress this then. But,who knows? There are obviously two legal systems at work in our society. The one for the privileged and the one for the rest of us .This little "mishap" has served to underline that fact. But it happens every day. Be aware.
By: Brian Jones on 02/25/2009
We have to let it go to the courts. The OPP were the ones to charge Tim Best. The laws are for drunk drivers to be sure they can't think they can get away with it . When two accidents happened and he got out of the vehicle and ran, he must have known that wasn't the right to do . If the courts give him a light sentence then that is when we start complaining and I hope the LFP prints it then. The persons who he hit are lucky to be alive and that should count for something . We cant judge what he has done before, just what he has done now and has to pay for. The families of the people involved are glad they are okay but the law suits will come after the court case so this isn't done after the court make its decision . As far as the mayor being on the police board I think she should resign from that. The rest is up to her on how to deal with Tim Best.

Best went to court on May 19th, anyone know what happened?
By: Joanna Granville on 05/20/2009
No one heard as far as I know, Nothing on air or tv. Keeping that quiet are they?
By: compassion on 05/22/2009
next court date 9 of june I think
By: compassion on 05/27/2009
This is just another case of LFP showing favoritism and is also the very reason I do not subscribe to a paper that thinks a guy who flies kites is a big story. All of London is wondering what happened at his last scheduled court appearance.
By: Mike Manzara on 06/02/2009
June 9th, anyone heard anything yet?
By: Joanna on 06/10/2009
new date tim best june 9

I meant june 30 hope i put that in frist one i sent today for tim best
By: marie on 06/11/2009
It makes me wonder how some people must have nothing better to do with themselves. Who cares what and when Mr Best is back in court! That's for him and his family to worry about. I can't beleive people are actually waiting and looking for columns on Tim Best. It's his life and he will need to deal with it.
By: Greek on 06/19/2009
I care. He injured 2 people 5 months ago and is still a free man enjoying the nice weather.
By: Jack on 06/23/2009
I care because he could have killed someone, and if he is not charged he could do it again. I do not want drinking and driving on our roads.
By: Joanna on 06/26/2009
Everyone should care. As a bar owner, and the husband of a public figure he should uphold a higher standard. Who is going to take a mayor saying she takes crime seriously, when her husband is out endangering lives. And worst of all ran. If he really thought he could "outrun" the law, he was definately beyond a bit tipsy. People talk about the embarrassment of the wild college parties, at least those are still kids, he's supposed to be a mature man. London just continues its downward spiral.
By: Lou on 06/28/2009
So today is the day he should have been in court again... anyone have any updates?
By: Robert Loblaw on 07/01/2009
For those that want to know, Tim Best's lawyer remaned it to July 21, 2009. Still no court date set. Maybe they are waiting til relection day before he gets a date.
By: marie on 07/10/2009
Having your wife on the police services board helps these things disappear.
By: Corrupt Cops on 10/28/2009
Oh come on! You honestly think that someone sitting on a board has the power to bury a public situation with there spouse.. You people watch to many conspiracy movies. Ann Marie has to deal with way to many issues with you people. Why don’t you get to know her before you start condemning her and just seeing her on TV doesn’t mean you know her.
By: Greek on 10/28/2009
@Greek, nope, but it obviously helps. like i said.
By: Corrupt Cops on 10/29/2009
So any chance of an update on this trial? I think the pubic has the right to know. I mean, if it was anyone else, we would be able to know the outcome by now.
By: Robert Loblaw on 11/19/2009
His court date is Monday january 25th. I can't wait for the truth to come out.
By: Joanne on 01/20/2010
I hope they get the date set in march 9 before the opp officer has to go overseas time to stand up take the punsihment that the law gives never mind what the witnesses look like they were the ones who suffered at his hands thought that wasnt called for bye his lawyer saying on tv
By: madd on 01/26/2010
Chris Bently calls this swift justice? Anyone else would have been prosecuted within 6 months.
By: Mike on 01/29/2010
I sincerely hope that Tim Best is convicted and punished accordingly. Has his license been suspended? It should be. The fact that Anne-Marie is standing by him (at the hearing) is despicable. It demonstrates that she supports her husband drinking and driving. Would she still appear with him had he killed someone??? I can't believe she is our Mayor. Very disappointing. Hopefully she goes up against a good candidate come election time because the competition will be getting my vote!!

Well I'm sure glad I wasn't on the road in Dorchester when this happened. Gee, we cannot get far enough away from the City. London has the reputation for 'being a large City with a small town mentality' - 'ultra conservative and 'dead from the ankles up'...... I'm sure this Story is not surprising to others in S.W. Ontario - this story will just be another one added to the already well known fact that 'London is a terribly managed City' - despite having a great University with many well educated residents. We still dont have - and likely will never ever have - a decent expressway.
By: Dorchester-ite on 02/20/2010
Listen up folks! Many of you commenting here are drinkers yourselves or married to a drinker. Tim will be made accountable for his actions and forced into rehab. But even that won't ensure his safety or the safety of others. Alcoholism is a disease and it is not choosy. You may drink a little or you may drink alot; if it doesn't rip your life from under you it will through someone you know and love. It isn't stamped on anyones forehead that they are alcoholic It can someday be the person sitting beside you. This is a disease that is progressive, where the person is beyond human help. It is the first drink that can put a person in danger because it is instant alteration ofthe mind. If Anne-Marie stands beside this man she is a courageous woman not to be condemmed. Alcohol is a beverage most of society consumes because many do not no what they are doing to themselves or their loved ones. Few of us have escaped it's wrath. Suicide amongst our children is at an all time high. Degradation of work, family life. health and life in general is the result of it. All are focused on drugs and smoking but the one thing working to our demise is never acknowledged and continues to florish. The above writter says" London has the reputation for being a large city with a small town mentally." Careful your ignorance is astounding. The "consumption" of alcohol can not be managed. Not by a Mayor, University, a Government, police, any one person or a crowd. The responsibility has to be individual and if enough individuals leave it on the shelve you will see the disappereance of many world problems. In fact most because while you judge and blame you stay in denial of the worlds worst SECRET enemy ALCOHOL!
