Contrary to a report broadcast on a London radio station Monday (July 6), the cyclist seriously injured in a collision with a RV-type vehicle last month, did not die as a result of the injuries.
In a media released issued by police Monday, the misinformation of the cyclist's death was stated by London police Sgt. Tom O'Brien, with the Traffic Management Unit, during a radio interview.
"This information turned out not to be true. The cyclist remains in hospital. Sgt. O'Brien apologizes for the release of this misinformation and specifically apologizes to the friends and family of this cyclist who may have heard the broadcast," police said in an official statement.
On June 29, police responded to the intersection of Trafalgar Street and Clarke Road just after 9 a.m., on the report of a serious collision in which a cyclist was struck.
The 21-year-old male was riding a bike westbound on Trafalgar Street when he entered the intersection at Clarke Road. The man was struck by an RV-style vehicle, police said, that was traveling north on Clarke Road.
The cyclist was rushed to hospital with "life-threatening injuries," police said.
The intersection was closed for much of the morning as a traffic reconstruction team attended to investigate the scene.
Police said the investigation is continuing.
