Halloween is over take Jack to the curb
Residents can put their pumpkins out on regularly scheduled curbside leaf and yard material collection weeks. Just remove the candle and any metal or plastic from the pumpkin and place it in the same container with yard materials or fall leaves. "Pumpkins are heavy, so please be sure the container is not over the weight limit of 20 kilograms (44 pounds)," City officials said. Residents should check their Waste Reduction and Conservation Calendar or the City's website (see link) to find out when their pickup week is for yard materials. In addition to curbside collection, Londoners can also drop off their pumpkins at London drop-off depots for composting. Below is a list for depots accepting pumpkins for composting (if you have missed your collection, do not have access to curbside pickup, or don't want to wait for collection day). By composting your pumpkin, you're helping recover valuable organic resources and reducing materials going into the landfill. Last year alone, over 70 tonnes of pumpkins were composted. All pumpkins are brought to Try Recycling, where they are mixed in with other organic materials (like leaves and yard materials) and, after a year, they become rich compost perfect for your garden.
