A London police officer was compelled to draw his weapon on a 17-year-old armed suspect who was threatening a man with a machete, early Monday morning (Nov. 23).
Police said two officers were in the area of Adelaide Street at Marshall Street in central London when they spotted a male chasing another male with what appeared to be a large knife.
The armed male was waving the knife at the other male and officers reported the blade came within inches of the victim's neck and head area.
"An officer drew a service pistol and demanded that the male drop the knife. The male dropped the knife and when the officers went in to arrest the suspect he resisted
arrest," police said.
The weapon the suspect was wielding turned out to be a machete, which was seized by the arresting officers.
Police said the victim in the incident, a 25-year-old male of London, was uncooperative with police and provided a false name. Upon further investigation it was found the victim was violating probationary conditions that prohibited him from consuming alcohol and required he abide by a curfew.
As a result, both males were charged, police said.
The 17-year-old male was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, resisting arrest and failing to comply with a recognizance.
The 25-year-old male is charged with two counts of breaching a recognizance, breach of probation and mischief by providing a false name.
