The holiday shopping season is upon us and the City of London, in partnership with three downtown business associations, is offering free parking at more than 1,200 metres in the city's core.
Starting Monday (Dec. 1), Downtown London, the Old East Village Business Improvement Association, the Richmond Row Merchant's Association and the City of London are pleased to announce free parking on-street at select meters during the
month of December.
"The City of London is offering Londoners a break on parking fees during
the holiday season," said Shane Maguire, City of London division manager of Parking and Traffic Signals. "Over 1,200 of our meters are free, so be sure to look
for the specially marked ones."
Londoners shopping in the downtown core will be able to take advantage of the free parking along Richmond Row and at nearby shops, and in the Old East shopping district between Rectory Street and Adelaide Street. The metres will be detailed with a notice in place of the typical parking rate and time information. This notice, found inside the metre's display panel will read "Free Parking Courtesy of the City of London."
"London's downtown shopping experience is thriving this holiday season,"
said Janette MacDonald, manager of Downtown London. "We offer a wide
range of unique shops with one-of-a-kind items you'll not find anywhere
else, and with free parking during the month of December, there's never
been a better time to come downtown."
