The Lickety-Split Ranch and Zoo has remained closed since the story of Tyson, the red kangaroo, made international headlines.

The owner of Lickety-Split Ranch and Zoo, a roadside zoo located in London, is scheduled to make a court appearance Monday (July 23).

Though Shirley McElroy, the zoo's owner, is not facing any animal cruelty charges, which some activists and area citizens believe should be applied, she will appear in Provincial Offences Court in London to answer a charge that the zoo failed to renew its annual licence to keep native wildlife.

In recent months, the zoo, once listed as a London tourist attraction on Tourism London's website but has since been removed, was the focus of media attention due to complaints about the conditions in which the animals were kept.

The zoo has been called "the worst zoo in Canada" by the Toronto-based World Society for the Protection of Animals – and in May it grabbed international attention for the perceived mistreatment of Tyson, a red kangaroo once held captive at the zoo.

Comments:
These people should seriously be punished. To treat animals as bad as they did, they both should be behind bars without security. I cannot believe in todays day and age that the laws are not more strict on these issues.
