UPDATE: Body of missing man found floating in Thames

A body pulled from the Thames River Saturday has been identified as the 61-year-old missing London man Bill Yates.

Police and fire pulled the decomposed body of a man from the Thames River Saturday, and following autopsy results Sunday (March 16), the remains had been identified as the missing London teacher.

Yates went missing Jan. 10. Police and the London Fire Department conducted an extensive search for Yates Jan. 11, after the man went missing from his home in the area of Hamilton Road and Clarke Road.

Heavy rains had caused high river levels around the time Yates went missing, and though authorities scoured the river and area near the missing man's home, no sign of Yates was found.

On Saturday, firefighters pulled the badly decomposed body of from the river at around 12:30 p.m., in the area of Richmond Street and Carfrae Crescent, after a citizen spotted the body floating in the river beneath the Adelaide Street bridge. Both police and fire marine rescue responded to the scene.

Police are continuing the investigation to determine the cause of death. No further information was available at time of publication.
