Tories win right to repay election GST rebates
Elections Canada says it is reviewing a court ruling that effectively raises the campaign spending limits for at least two of Canada's biggest federal political parties. A judgment by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice sided with the Conservative party – and agreed the party should be able to repay taxpayers more than $590,000 in GST rebates from the 2004 and 2006 federal elections.

Manitoba may freeze politicians' salaries
It is not the easiest time to be a new premier in Manitoba. The recession's toll and a possible reduction in federal equalization payments have Greg Selinger planning for a little belt-tightening and some red ink for 2010. Selinger, a longtime NDP finance minister who became premier in October after the departure of Gary Doer, has already ordered some departments to look for ways to trim non-essential spending. He has also announced that cabinet ministers will forgo a $1,000 raise on the salary supplement they get, which was set to take effect April 1.
